M ~ Maintain your perspective [A to Z Challenge]

Mr Khurana, a teacher by profession, was in class today, he was upset due to one of his students’ behavior and wanted to tell a story to his students. He starts narrating the story, “A cruise ship met with an accident and it called for evacuation of all its passengers. While the last couple was trying to make their way to life boat, they realized that this was the last life boat that could accommodate only one person, man immediately pushed his wife behind him and jumped onto the lifeboat to save himself. The lady kept staring at the lifeboat and shouted only one sentence to her husband." “What do you think she shouted”, teacher asks.

Most of the students responded saying – “I hate you, I was mad and now I feel betrayed”.

Only one boy had a different answer, and he said that woman must have shouted, “Take care of our child” and Mr Khurana started nodding affirming that this was the right answer.

Mr. Khurana continued the story by telling his students that the woman ended up dying while man came back home bringing up their son single-handedly. Many years after, his son found man’s diary while cleaning up his belongings. He started reading the diary and came to know that his mother was already diagnosed with cancer and had short period of life left when his parents left for a cruise expedition. He also wrote in the diary “How much I wished that we could spend few more moments together, sinking to the bottom of the sea hand in hand; but for the sake of our son, I had to let you die and lie forever below the sea Alone”

The class was silent and Mr Khurana knew that his student had finally been able to interpret the moral of the story. He concluded by saying, “Always maintain your perspective”

Stephen Hawking, one of the most respected authorities in the area of Physics, has said that our planet is a very average star located within outer limits of one of a hundred thousand million galaxies. Isn’t that a shift in perspective?  Are our troubles really high? Are the problems we’ve been experiencing on day-to-day basis are as grave as we have made them out to be? Hence the lesson is – “Always maintain your perspective”

So today onwards, when your friend comes to you and apologize, or your better half says sorry; keep in your mind that they are not doing it because you are right and they are wrong; it’s because they value people more than their ego. Next time, when you observe a very proactive person at your work, or even at club who is ready to take up any task; understand that they are not stupid but they understand the concept of responsibility.

That average kid in your school who always used to be in dirty clothes and never completed his homework on time, never had his own parents and was adopted by his uncle & aunt who couldn’t give him the attention and time he deserved.

That only loner guy in your class whom you’ve never seen having a real conversation with anyone except the teacher, was sexually harassed by his uncle at the mare age of 9 and he became so fearful that he’d never interact with anyone except his parents and teacher.

And the man who is sleeping like a baby between two sleeper seats (second class train compartment) in train, is a soldier who had to go on an emergency leave after doing his 24 hours guard duty because his wife was expecting baby in a day or two!!

There is always a better, wiser, and more informed way of looking at these apparently negative situations. And it is very important to “maintain our perspective”

Did you also apply a one sided perspective to something that needed to be looked into more maturely, or when did you maintain your perspective when you encountered a negative situation last time, why don't you share that with us?

I ~ am Hemant, and I’ve learned from my mistakes

It was raining heavily, and the clouds announced my arrival with a thunderous applause. It certainly sounds dramatic, but it is not the truth.  A day after I was born, the then prime minister Indira Gandhi ordered Operation Blue Star, and the series of events that followed, lead to a lot of bloodshed in our country. It was the same year when Bhopal Gas Tragedy happened leaving our young country with a realization that industrialization with no controls would lead us nowhere. It wasn’t really an exciting year!!!

So, 4 March 1984 was rather a very quiet & normal day, with maximum temperature and minimum temperature hovering between 30 and 9 degree Celsius. My Mom often tells me that it was one of the most pleasant days of the spring season when she gave birth to me. The only other relaxing fact is that Katrina Kaif was born in the same year too.

As child, I was very quiet & shy; but also the most curious person of our big family. Because of this nature, I ended up doing things rather than clarifying my doubts by asking questions. For me, Kerosene lamp was the most fascinating objects of that time. With curiosity in my little eyes, I tried holding it with both of my hands, and guess what, yes it was hot and the next thing I remember is my mom applying toothpaste on both my hands (very common site in old good times). My first mistake taught me a lesson for life that we must never play with Fire.

The little shy & quiet champ grew up into a teen, still famous and mostly infamous for his curiosity that lead him joining the gang of the most miscreant boys of his own the street. My parents would always shout at me that I am making a big mistake. Ankit, Jitu, Sujeet, Baua and Sonu taught me how to smoke, how to send signal to a girl that you are interested, how to acknowledge signal when it’s other way around, but most importantly they taught me how to take every situation head on. And I carried forward the lessons that would be very fruitful in more significant years of life.

The third mistake came when I was forced to join one of the central government organizations. My parents would have their dream come true that I would be the first person joining Central Government Job from my entire family. I always wanted to be a business man; however my father’s experience with business would force him to force me to opt for a safe government job. As an obedient son, I spent 4 years of my youth in this organization. It helped me learn how to survive in any given physical condition; I still reach most places right on time, while my colleagues and friends are late.

In June 2007, I made my fourth mistake when left this Government Job and joined one of the MNCs in Magarpatta City, Pune. My father didn’t speak to me for almost an year, it was a mistake that couldn’t be forgiven and forgotten so easily. Initially I struggled, but lessons from my previous mistakes came in handy, and I not just survived, people tell me that I outperformed. All these mistakes helped me feel fearless, and more importantly, feel satisfied about the decisions I made.

"A mistake is a mistake as long as you don’t own it; as soon as you own it, it becomes a lesson for life. When we are making mistakes, we are making new things, we are pushing ourselves to achieve the best, but most importantly, we are doing something."

PS: And this was also my first speech in my Toastmasters Journey. Tagging few more buddy bloggers who are still surviving, infact doing awesome in A to Z Challenge; while I am three letters behind!!

मेरा गम कितना कम है ~ the irony of life!!

D for Dimple on his cheeks (A to Z challenge series)

I don't know if you can call it a guest post if it's written by your own wife. There are chances of misinterpretation that she may ask why you are considering her as guest.....but anyways. This is the first guest post on my blog by my lovely wife Garima Talwar

Dimple on his cheeks
make me go mad & weak
His beautiful sight
Like the bright sunlight
that shining smile
I wish he could be mine

The moment I saw him first time
he looks like a natural rhyme
When he looked into my eyes
I skipped my beat in that sight

Words were short
I wish I could say a lot
I was into deep thoughts
When I realized, red handed I was caught

Was it chemistry or physics
I asked him out & took the risk
It proved to be the most beautiful day of my life
It's April 2015 now & I am his lovely wife!!!!

#JeSuisCharlie - The unanswered question!!

In a city where, violence
Never happened for four decades
I was shot point blank
They said they avenged
Paigambar Mohammad (PBUH)
& shouted that Allah is the greatest!!

Was I killed for my creativity
Or my satire
Or it was a wicked desire
Of those who think that they are above Allah
Above Islam
Who think that He needs their protection

You can give Him nothing
You can't decide what He wants
For He is supreme
For He can avenge Himself
For He doesn't need your mercy
Rather you need His!!

With closed eyes, ears and minds
You are too ambitious to interpret religion
For mind is like a parachute
It works only when it's open

Before it is too late
Open your senses
And realize the light
Of Sun, of Moon
Of humanity & of knowledge
For it cannot be derived from one source!!

Here's our great Bamulahija's take on this:

Rhyming the Life of a daily wage worker!!

Today he saw another hurried morning
No, it was not a morning walk
That people do to keep themselves fit
Neither was it a boss who would shout at him
If late he would reach
Rather it was the worried faces of his family
Showing the uncertainty of an evening meal!

A meal that’s a luxury if served in time
Becomes the only desire in life that chimes
When day start seeming worst than that of kine
You become biological equipment with uneasy grime
An example of yours is considered the best
To explain the irony of ‘Maslow’s hierarchy of needs’
You consider yourself as a victim
Of the crony capitalism’s greed!

The question of happiness
Overtaken by the answer to survival
Life stands still, dumb & helpless
Awaiting an era of revival!!

R - Reaction vs Response!!

The 'R' post (with reference to A-to-Z challenge) is coming late this time. I would have written a Poem or a Haiku and that's what suits my style; but today I am sharing this post based on a real conversation with one of the greatest friends of mine. Let's call him a special friend; I don't want to term him Aaptard though he sounded like one. I came across this new term recently as an outcome of Indian General Election 2014. Its been discussed a lot during social media interactions but alas; I experienced the real meaning of this term after having a conversation with my special Friend.

Without making any changes; I am sharing the actual snapshot of our conversation over an FB status, posted by my special friend. He shared one of the newspaper links talking about Praveen Togadia's latest hate speech; which Praveen Togadia responded with a legal notice to all the newspapers. I curiously tried searching this specific hate speech but failed; and told my friend to go through the legal notice.

Below are original snapshots from our conversation -

Outcome: Surprisingly my special friend deleted my original comments only to leave me with strange feelings. He didn't stop there and astonished me by removing his original post and un-friending me from his friend-list. Alas...did I just lose a precious friendship because of reaction from my friend!! What do you think would have been the situation if he had responded (not reacted) to my thoughts rather than being prejudice and implying his perception!!!

PS: I don't support Togadia...He has been controversial all the time; neither I support anyone who dares to shake the foundation of harmony of Indian Society by making hate speeches.

PPS: I cannot hate or un-friend someone for a difference in ideology.

Sending my curse!!

Preliminary warning: If you do not like this blog post, you have freedom to walk away and hang around other websites. There's plenty of material available online.

Today, I send my curse:

- To the people responsible for insane Hyderabad Bomb blast happened recently in the twin City.

- To a government who cannot provide a secure environment to its citizen.

- To the protesters for flocking the nation streets for women security/lokpal but ignore the continuous act of a deaf government for not taking appropriate measures for preventing situations like 26/11, 21/2 etc etc.

- To the great men (sometimes referred as son/daughter of god) for writing those thousand pages verses in such a difficult language and making it almost impossible/difficult for common human being to understand the meaning; and making it easiest for con men to spread a misinterpretation of those verses and misguide common people.

- To the intelligence agencies for just sending a note of warning to states every 15/30 days and take no preventive measures to stop the nonsense.

- To the people declaring that “They are safe and home” with a smiley on social networking website after a blast that killed more than 20 innocents.

- To the selfish one residing in each of our heart thinking about I, me and my.

- And finally to myself for the helplessness I feel in my soul of not able to do anything but write a blogpost and express my concern.

Secularism is not something that is found in the books of different countries, but it has to find a place in the heart and soul of each citizen, may be by flowing it into preliminary educational textbooks or any other suitable method.

This gives me a strong feeling that my previous post headline "Where religion stops, wisdom starts" has been proved true time and again. Is 'No religion" Or "Only one religion" can be the solution to world peace!!! I leave it upto my readers to decide.

Creativity is the girlfriend of solitude!!!

I can't believe what my mind had been thinking this morning. New Year gave me a warm welcome with my mom and younger brother coming home visiting us in Hyderabad. While I went to pick them from Railway Station on my bike, I came back alone on bike followed by them in an Auto. The solitude morning ride showed its colors soon.

The Auto Rikshaw's rear mirror had an impression of kiss (Off course an F Kiss) and that made my mind wander in the streets of fantasies.

After traveling through various shops of illusions, my mind started wondering how this sign can be used for something productive (economically productive to be precise). My eyes looking at the various objects e.g. buses, cars, crossroads, divider, bikes, rikshaws. Then a thought came into mind what if a Car company starts promoting a car series with KBK concept. This special car series will have the original impression of Karina's kiss on both the front doors. And KBK stands for (Kiss by Karina). I am sure marketing world would look at it as a revolutionary idea.

Since the idea is documented now, it stands copyrighted by me :)

Wish you all a healthy 2013. Thanks for giving it a read.....do drop your views.
